There is a difference between registered and unregistered domestic partners when it comes to relief on dissolution of a domestic partnership. If you have a "common law" domestic partnership under Beal and Beal, 282 Or. 115, 577 P.2d 507 (1978), the court is likely to divide partnership assets based on your intent. The answer to your question is more complex than I can explain in a short blog response, and I encourage you to call us or any experienced family law attorney to talk about the particulars of your case.

A question regarding opposite sex domestic partners: I have been with mine nine years. We live in the same home and share expenses. We maintain separate and a joint bank account. For over a year I paid all the household expenses, as well as some of his personal debts. I mostly have receipts and we kept a book detailing with dates the amounts I paid and am owed. This amount is somewhere around 10k. My question is that now we are going our separate ways he doesn't want to pay up. Do I have any legal recourse?
